What to Expect

Initial Visit (1 Hour)

Without a doubt, your first visit here will be unlike any healthcare experience you’ve had in the past. An extensive conversation about your health, your initial visit is an opportunity for you to truly unpack your health concerns and explore your goals. Dr. Reid will discuss with you your primary concerns, as well as all other aspects of your health that could be impacting them. It is not uncommon for people to leave this visit saying, “Wow, I’ve never had a doctor’s appointment like that before. I feel like she totally gets me.” We hope that when you come, you’ll feel this way too!

Don’t forget to Bring:

* Your completed intake forms (or arrive 15 minutes early to complete them in-house)
* Any lab work or imaging results you may have
* Any medications you are currently taking, including natural ones. If you prefer to take pictures of your medicines, please photograph both the front and back of bottles so that ingredients & dosing may be determined.
* Any questions you may have regarding your health or naturopathic medicine in general.

Second Visit (1 Hour)

The second visit is typically scheduled one week after your first. During this visit, Dr. Reid will review your diet diary, any supplements you are taking as well as go over any lab work you may have. She will conduct a focussed physical exam and any outstanding lab work, including PAP testing, should it be needed.

Dr. Reid will then formulate a customized treatment plan to address your health concerns, steering you towards your goals. Like any journey, it all begins with a single step.

Return Visits (30 minutes)

Third and subsequent visits are 30 minutes, unless you desire more time. During these visits, Dr. Reid will assess your response to the treatment plan created, and alter it as needed to keep you moving in the right direction.

The frequency of follow-up visits depends upon what the problem is and how your body responds to the medicines and treatments provided.

First Visit (1 Hour)

During this hour long visit, Emily will discuss with you your current health and nutrition goals and concerns. Emily will ask you a series of questions to get a better idea of what you are looking for in a diet plan. After the appointment, you’ll be sent home with a Diet Diary. This is an excellent tool for both the client and practitioner.

Second Visit (30 minutes)

This appointment is booked one week after your First Visit. During this half hour visit, Emily will give you your customized meal plan! She will make sure you are clear with the instructions and show you the wonderful content including meal guide, recipes and grocery list.

Return Visits (30 minutes)

This visit is usually booked three weeks after your Second Visit. The purpose of this appointment is to check in to see how you’ve made out with your meal plan.  This is where you can explain what worked and what didn’t.  Based on this information, adjustments and changes can be made to your plan.

First Visit (1 hour)

In this initial visit Karen will discuss with you your health concerns and start your journey towards better health with a full session of Massage Therapy.

Followup Visits (1 hour)

In each followup visit we review your progress and tailor a Massage session according to your needs.

Health designed with YOU in mind.

If you receive premium assistance, MSP reimburses you a portion of your visit fees for naturopathic and massage services. That said, most extended health plans cover both naturopathic and massage services. Some extended health plans have a Health Spending Account that may be used towards our nutrition services.  Check with your provider regarding details of your coverage.

Yes, absolutely! In fact, at Doctors’ Choice Naturopathic, a focussed physical exam, including PAP if required, is done on your second visit. We’ve got you covered!
Without a doubt. Naturopathic Doctors have a minimum of 7 years of medical training, including 3 years of pre-medicine at a recognized University (ex: UBC) followed by 4 years of Naturopathic Medical training at an accredited Naturopathic Medical school. Naturopathic Doctors have extensive biomedical science training.
Yup, you bet! In fact, your health is best managed when you have both. Although our training in the biomedical sciences is very similar to that of an MD, our approach to healthcare is quite different. We each have different toolkits and skill sets to serve your needs. At DCN, we believe an integrated approach to healthcare is in YOUR best interest.

We get this one a lot!  Who do I see first?  Who can help me the most?  Where should I spend my money?  The answer depends on your health goals:

If you are seeking a deeper understanding of your health or are experiencing concerns about your body, then seeing a Naturopathic Doctor may be the best place to start.  In this case, a Holistic Nutritionist can support your health goals by creating a diet plan that can compliment the recommendations from your Naturopathic doctor.

If you are looking to amp up your diet and are seeking guidance in doing so, than a Holistic Nutritionist is the perfect fit!

A Dietitian has completed a degree through university.  Dietetics is a regulated profession in BC.  A Holistic Nutritionist has completed a privately owned training program resulting in a diploma.

A Dietitian primarily follows Canada’s Food Guide and gives this as a resource.  A Registered Holistic Nutritionist tailors a diet plan to the person’s needs to support their health conditions or goals. You will often find Dietiticians working in hospitals, food research, or creating meal structures for schools, large corporations and assisted living houses.  Holistic Nutritionists on the other hand, are usually self employed or working in integrative health care spaces.

Cranial Sacral Therapy is a gentle form of bodywork that supports the central nervous system in the following ways:

  • deep relaxation
  • pain releif
  • enhancement of the body’s healing ability
  • migraine / headache relief
  • alignment of the spinal cord
  • fascial tissue support
This really depends ~ depends on how quickly your body responds to the medicines & recommendations given. For some people, we get things handled in a few short visits. For others, it may take a little longer. And then there are those who are in fantastic health and check-in every few months in order to keep their health top-notch.
In many circumstances, yes. However, prior to combining any natural and prescriptive medications, you need to consult with a licensed Naturopathic Doctor first to ensure the combination is safe.

Dr. Reid is licensed to prescribe pharmaceutical medicines and is exhaustively trained in the interactions that may occur between pharmaceutical and natural medications. You are in extremely good hands here.
